Sanctity of Life Resource Guide

Back to All News + Events

Sanctity of Life Sunday is the third Sunday in January each year. It is a time to reflect on our belief that ALL PEOPLE are made in the image of God regardless of a person’s age, gender, ethnicity, economic status, or any other variables. Advocating for life unequivocally includes advocating for the unborn. But we must advocate for life at every stage.

This is a divisive moment in our culture. While our culture presents us with a false dichotomy that we can either support only women or only children, we believe the Gospel compels us to love both women and children. Therefore, we are committed to supporting and encouraging mothers and women broadly while at the same time affirming the value of children at every stage of life.

Special Needs Ministries

At Ward, we are made stronger and more beautiful by the members of our church family with developmental disabilities who gather to grow in faith and in knowledge of Christ.

  • Hand in Hand Ministry pairs up each special needs child with a caring compassionate teen or adult buddy to provide positive support in a classroom.
  • Young Life Capernaum serves teens and young adults with disabilities up to age 26.
  • Potters Wheel focuses on the spiritual, social, and creative development of adults with special needs.

Anti-trafficking Ministry

Gateway 328 is a ministry of Ward Church that connects people to resources and organizations that stand at the forefront of the fight against human trafficking in the Metro Detroit area and around the world. There are many “gateways” into human trafficking that a vulnerable person might encounter. But the love of God is the door through which Gateway 328 hopes to lead those caught in the web of human trafficking and exploitation. Our guiding verse is Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

  • All Worthy of Love (AWOL) is a justice-focused non-profit that reaches out to men and women enslaved by street prostitution. Their mission is to restore broken dwellings, based on the teachings of Isaiah 58. Starting in 2021, Gateway 328 has partnered with All Worthy of Love, contributing resources and manpower to help with street outreach to those enslaved in street prostitution in Wayne and Washtenaw Counties.
  • Not Abandoned This global organization labors to empower women who have been exploited. They work with the women they meet to remove barriers to freedom and then provide steady support, trauma-informed care, and practical training opportunities to live a life of freedom and purpose. Ward Church has partnered with Not Abandoned to send a team from Ward to Pattaya, Thailand to outreach to girls and women trapped in the industry and connect them with an education and employment training team, and continues to send teams to support new Not Abandoned initiatives.

Forgotten Harvest

Ward is grateful to partner with Forgotten Harvest that delivers 144,000 pounds of surplus food per day, to local charities five days a week, providing families in need with fresh and nutritious food free of charge. Our Forgotten Harvest team of volunteers meets every Monday morning at 8:45am to distribute food to the community. We average about 350 families every week. In 2024, we received 42 million pounds of food to redistribute. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. Learn more.
