We observe Holy Week with a posture of reflection, heaviness and gratitude. Remembering the life and death of Jesus in this way brings a fullness of joy when we celebrate the resurrection and what it means for the world today.
Thursday, April 18
7:00 p.m. • Sanctuary • The Maundy Thursday Service—a Service of Shadows, dates from the 8th century. “Tenebrae” (meaning shadows) was originally celebrated on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of Holy Week. It represents the darkness that fell over the earth as the Son of God was crucified. It is a dramatic presentation with the progressive extinguishing of candles until only one remains. This solemn service is a cherished Ward tradition. Childcare available birth – 3rd grade.
Friday, April 19
12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. • Sanctuary • Continuing in the dark and solemn spirit of Thursday night’s Maundy Thursday Service, take time for self-guided, silent meditation and prayer during this 3-hour time period, remembering when Jesus was on the cross. Childcare is not available.
7:00 p.m. • Knox Hall • Everyone is welcome as we prepare our hearts for Resurrection Sunday by gathering together for a Night of Worship. This time of worship will be led by our modern worship team and will focus on Good Friday. Childcare for children birth through age 4 is available with pre-registration by Monday, April 15.
New and returning guests need smiling faces, simple directions, and shuttle lifts to get around campus. Be part of serving our community at one of the Easter events this year!BROWSE OPPORTUNITIES
