Why This Impact Trip Changed Me And Why It Might Change You Too
Our recent trip to the U.S.–Mexico border with Border Perspective was nothing short of life-changing. Rooted in daily Scripture study and shaped by conversations with immigrants, ministry leaders, and local partners, we encountered the heart of God in powerful, unexpected ways.
This wasn’t just a trip—it was a transformative experience that reshaped how we see people, how we understand justice, and how we live out our faith in the everyday.
We wrestled with what it means to truly love our neighbor, to live with compassion and courage, and to embrace a posture of radical hospitality and Christ-like love. Through deep learning, personal stories, and hands-on service, we were invited to see the image of God in every person—and to respond with grace, conviction, and action.
If you’re looking for a meaningful way to grow spiritually, challenge your assumptions, and engage in something that matters, consider joining the next Border Perspective trip this fall. It’s more than a missions experience—it’s an opportunity to be changed from the inside out.
Reflections from Rebecca Park, Pastoral Resident
Rebecca Park, our Pastoral Resident, joined us on this journey. Here’s what she shared:
“It’s been a while since I returned from the border—and I’m still processing everything we learned, saw, and felt. What began as a week-long trip quickly became a deeply formative journey that continues to shape my heart, my ministry, and how I live each day.
Our trip with Border Perspective was immersive and intentionally designed to place us in the lives of immigrant leaders serving families on the U.S.–Mexico border. Each morning, we grounded ourselves in Scripture—studying God’s heart for the foreigner and reflecting on the biblical call to love our immigrant neighbor. These studies reminded us that God’s concern for the marginalized isn’t peripheral to our faith—it’s central.
Throughout the week, we met with Border Patrol agents, served with Catholic Charities, engaged with local pastors and missionaries, and volunteered at shelters. These encounters were eye-opening—not because they gave us easy answers, but because they revealed the human stories behind the headlines. They brought us face to face with the complexity of immigration—and with the resilience and dignity of those navigating it each day.
What made this trip unique was the combination of learning and service. We weren’t just volunteering; we were being discipled by immigrant pastors, ministry leaders, and families who welcomed us into their lives. This wasn’t about giving charity—it was about standing in solidarity, listening well, and allowing ourselves to be changed.
This trip radically reframed my understanding of what it means to live out a faith that is active, compassionate, and just. I returned with a renewed commitment to lead with hospitality, preach with God’s heart for justice, and help build a church community that values every person—regardless of politics, background, or borders.”
