Pursuing Shalom
Stephen & Georgia Coats — Wycliffe Bible Translators serving in Greeley, Colorado
In this season, Stephen and Georgia have been reflecting deeply on the biblical vision of shalom — the Hebrew picture of wholeness, restoration, and right relationship with God and one another.
During Advent, they gathered with close friends to pray and reflect on what it means to pursue peace and justice through a Jesus-centered lens. Together they asked God to bring His shalom not only into their own lives, but into the lives of those who are hurting, displaced, or overlooked in their community.
That prayer took on tangible meaning as they relaunched Study Buddies, a tutoring program for refugee children who often lack academic support at home. After one recent session, the students worked together to assemble a puzzle meant to represent wholeness and unity. But several pieces were missing. The unfinished picture left the group with a quiet sense of incompleteness — a powerful reminder that this is not the fullness God desires. True shalom is the restoration of what is broken until nothing is missing.
Stephen and Georgia serve immigrants and refugees in Colorado while also engaging Arabic-speaking Muslims across North Africa through global media Scripture engagement and digital discipleship. Their ministry vision is simple and compelling:
Scripture Engagement Globally for Flourishing Communities Locally.
