Help local Afghan refugees feel at home
Our Outreach Team is looking for people to assist our current Afghan Refugee Welcome Team. The team works closely with Samaritas and assists Afghanistan refugees with their transition to the U.S., supporting the families in various ways. An immediate need is for someone who can drive to Detroit (to the family’s house) and teach ESL in the mornings. They also need someone to help with transportation to and from medical appointments, make trips to the grocery store, etc.
Samaritas requires anyone who will be working with the family to go through virtual training and submit some paperwork. This takes roughly 3-4 hours to complete. Also, if someone is interested in helping, the team leader from Ward can provide details on the family and the specifics around volunteering. To learn more and get involved, email Kristen Shunk.
