Have you walked through Ward Woods lately? Tucked just behind our church, these trails have quietly been coming alive this summer. Step in and you’ll notice it: paths cleared a little wider, signs pointing the way, and even a new fire pit. Ward Woods is a sanctuary. A lunchtime walk. A family adventure after church. A place to breathe, pray, and meet God in the stillness of creation.
Much of this transformation is thanks to one person’s passion. Marion, our friend and leader of the Ward Woods Trail Keepers, has fallen in love with these trails. She has spent countless hours guiding teams, hauling brush, mapping plants, and dreaming of what these woods could become. Her vision? That Ward Woods would be an educational, recreational, and spiritual experience for everyone.
Already, Marion’s vision is taking root. New brochures invite you to notice the birds, animals, and plants along your walk. A fall scavenger hunt is waiting for kids. The fire pit is ready for gatherings. And the trails themselves are safer, more accessible, and more welcoming than ever before. But the work isn’t finished. In fact, it’s just beginning.
That’s where you come in. The Trail Keepers are always open to new members—people of every skill level who simply love God’s creation and want to see it flourish. Whether you’re looking for service hours for a troop or group, or just a way to invest your time in something lasting, there’s a place for you here.
Because these trails are more than dirt and trees. They are a gift to our community, a living expression of our value of extra-mile hospitality. We’ve heard stories of quiet walks that turned into life-changing conversations, even leading neighbors into the doors of our church. We believe God is using Ward Woods as a place where hearts can be opened in the stillness of His creation.
So come—walk, pray, explore, enjoy. And if you feel a tug to help, join us in shaping this sacred space for generations to come.
“The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed at the work of the Creator.”
