Season of Giving 2024

Back to All News + Events
Ward's Season of Giving has become a tradition inspired by your generosity. During the final months of the year, you are invited to participate by blessing our neighbors in the city of Detroit, our World and impacting Ward's mission. Mark your calendars for the four different opportunities we have this season.

In Our Neighborhood

Coat & Blanket Drive

10/13 - 10/26

Join the mission of Help is On the Way as they continue to assist thousands of our neighbors who have found themselves in a state of need. Plese bring in your new or gently used coats, jackets and blankets as we kick off our Season of Giving.

In The City

Christmas Toy Collections for Central Detroit Christian

10/27 - 11/09

Partner with Central Detroit Christian as they care for their community in the city through the Pride of Parents' Christmas Store. This store allows parents to shop with dignity, purchasing gifts for their families for the Christmas season. Your donations make low prices and dignified shopping possible. Any funds received from the shopping goes back into resources for these families. The families involved are known to CDC through their outreach programs and must pre-register to shop. Each family receives a food basket with the purchase of gifts. To participate please bring a new, unwrapped gift between Sunday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 9.

Items needed:

  • Books

  • Toys (sports balls, cars, trucks, crafts, building blocks, culturally appropriate dolls, toddler toys, etc.)

  • New Coat (infant to teen sizes)

  • New Hats and Mittens (winter durable)

  • New Socks (children and adult, women and men variety)

  • New Underwear (children and adult, women and men variety)

  • BIGGEST NEED – Teen gifts (headphones, earbuds, phone cases, make up kits)

Around the World

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes

11/10 - 11/17

Every 30 seconds, a child comes to Christ through a shoebox! You can be part of this amazing ministry of Samaritan’s Purse by filling an empty shoebox with small toys, school supplies, personal hygiene items (no liquids) and $10 to cover shipping. You can truly change a life forever by sharing the love of Christ with a boy or girl in one of three age groups: 2-4; 5-9 or 10-14, and praying for the child’s spiritual, physical and emotional needs. Each shoebox is given to the child by a ministry partner in their community who shares the love of Christ with the child. Empty shoeboxes will be available starting Sunday, October 27. Filled shoeboxes are due back to Ward by Sunday, November 17.

Lastly is our Season of Giving Offering. This money will go to one of four areas at Ward, and you will get to pick where your gifts supports while also supporting Ward’s Impact Fund. The four areas are:

  • The Thrive Pastoral Residency Program at Ward, for folks interested in vocational ministry.

  • And improvements for Ward’s Media Center.
