7 reasons to plan your next coffee break at RēNū Coffee

ReNu Coffee: Entry 1 of Ward Church on 6 Mile, west of Haggerty Road

Hospitality is one of Ward Church’s core values. It’s what drives everything we do and it’s the foundation of RēNū Coffee—where you aren’t just welcomed but wanted. In 2016, we wanted to find more ways to reach the community with hospitality. So we opened a specialty coffee shop and an indoor playscape.

RēNū Coffee is located inside Entry 1 of Ward Church at its Northville campus. All the elements of RēNū Coffee echo its name. Their sign was made from pieces of reclaimed, or renewed wood from Detroit. Throughout the shop, you’ll find pieces from light fixtures to wall art all made of things that were once discarded and then made new. We’ve had customers come all the way from Canada to visit RēNū Coffee. It’s meant to imply how God’s plan is to renew all things – His people and His world.

Here are 7 reasons why we think you should plan your next coffee trip to RēNū.

Coffee Shops Offer a Solution to Loneliness and Isolation

Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent or a remote worker, one thing we all learned from the pandemic is our human need for connection. We’ve all experienced loneliness and isolation during that time. But for some, that isolation never completely went away. Maybe you’re not physically alone because you have young kids who are dependent on you all day. But you don’t get to have adult conversations. And while being a stay-at-home parent is rewarding, sometimes it’s nice to feel acknowledged as a person and not only a parent. You feel alone.

And you’re not the only one. Many companies figured out that remote work is more affordable and more efficient for their employees. In fact, the number of remote workers in 2022 quadrupled since the pre-pandemic era—and that number continues to climb. If you’re one of those people, maybe you’re saving money on gas and time with no commute. But those benefits start to lose their luster when your main human interaction comes from a computer screen. You’re isolated.

Coffee shops offer a solution to that isolation. They provide a way for you to get out of the house and into the positive energy of a community.

A Chance to Try a Variety of Coffee From Local Coffee Shops

RēNū Coffee partners with local specialty coffee roasters from Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor to offer you the best selections of coffee. Right now, we serve coffee from Madcap for espresso, Stovetop Roasters for batch brew, Gooseneck Coffee Co. for decaf and Espy for pour overs.

Because we care about you, we care about the quality of the coffee we offer. Each of these local coffee shops roasts their own specialty coffee close to the date they sell it to us. So you know it’s fresh and therefore tastes better. And you get a chance to try a variety of coffee from other local coffee shops.

RēNū Coffee Supports the Community

When you support our shop, you’re supporting Central Detroit Christian Community Development, which supplies our ready-made soup kits. You’re also supporting the Livonia Transition Program, which provides job training for developmentally disabled adults. Through this program, young adult special education students work closely with their teachers to provide baked goods for RēNū Coffee. They’ve even helped work within the coffee shop. Some of the students have gone on to get jobs working as baristas as a result of their experiences.

Choose From a Diverse Drink Menu Selection

You get a diverse menu selection of traditional and seasonal drinks, designed and perfected in-house—like the mint matcha latte, which is one of the current specialty drinks. And our house-made Chai concentrate with steamed milk. We also carry specialty coffee drinks like the Cortado. Some of our syrups are crafted in-house so you know you’re getting the best ingredients without preservatives. We carry kid-friendly snacks and drinks so your kids won’t feel left out. When you visit, check out our fresh baked goods provided by the Livonia Transition Program

There’s a Free Indoor Playscape for Your Kids to Play

For every mom, dad, or caregiver with a wiggly toddler in tow, we want you to know that just down the hall there’s a free Indoor Playscape that’s free to the public. The Indoor Playscape is a great spot for a preschool playdate. There are lots of clean bathrooms nearby. The playscape gets cleaned twice a day. Kids are required to wear socks but if you forget them (hello, summer sandals), we have extras. We’ve arranged a comfy seating area just outside the playscape. We think it’s a great spot to enjoy your coffee and time with other parents while you watch your kids play. Just check the hours on our website before visiting.

You’ll Get More Done With Our Co-working Space

If you’re a creative entrepreneur or you work remotely, there’s a good chance you’ll get more done at a coffee shop. And it’s not just from the caffeine. There’s something called The Coffee Shop Effect that proves a certain amount of background noise is scientifically good for productivity. It’s better than working in silence and helps your brain to concentrate.

But have you ever driven to a coffee shop to get work done, only to find there’s nowhere to sit when you get there? It can be frustrating. We have lots of seating inside and even more workstations right inside the building before you get to RēNū. Whether you’re working remotely, studying, or co-working you’ll find plenty of space to plug in and set up shop for a couple of hours.

RēNū Coffee Is Easy to Get To

There’s no sign from the road but RēNū is actually really easy to get to. It’s located just inside Entry 1 of Ward Church’s Northville Campus (look for the covered entrance). The benefit of being located outside of downtown Northville is you’re not going to have a hard time finding a place to park your car. The easiest way to get there is to park in the lot that’s in front of Entry 1, which faces 6 Mile Road. If you don’t see parking there, just to the left-hand side of the building to Entry 2 where there’s even more parking. RēNū Coffee is just down the hallway from Entry 2.

Bonus: We’re on GrubHub!

Some days, it’s hard to get away but you still want good coffee. We get it. Find us on GrubHub if you live near Northville. Just look for the discount we’re offering on GrubHub and get your coffee delivered.
