Welcome

Song:  How Great Thou Art

Or Lord, my God
When I in awesome Wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made
I see the stars
I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout
The universe displayed

Then sings my soul my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art

When Christ shall come
With shout of acclimation
And take me home
What joy shall fill my heart
Then I will bow
In humble adoration
And there proclaim
My God how great Thou art

Song:  In Christ Alone

In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light my strength my song
This Cornerstone this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love what depths of peace
When fears are stilled when strivings cease
My Comforter my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grace He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

I find my strength I find my hope
I find my help in Christ alone
When fear assails when darkness falls
I find my peace in Christ alone
I give my life I give my all
I sing this song to Christ alone
The King of Kings the lord of all
All Heaven sings to Christ alone
To Christ alone

‘Til He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
Here in the power of Christ we stand

Song:  Come Thou Fount (Above All Else)

Come thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I’m fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Here I raise mine Ebenezer
Hither by Thy help I come
And I hope by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed his precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Above all else
I adore your name
Above all else tune my heart
To sing Your praise

The highest praise
The loudest praise

To the name above every name

Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Scripture Reading: James 5:7-11

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.  As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Welcome

Song: Same God

I’m calling on the God of Jacob
Whose love endures
Through generations
I know that You will keep Your covenant

I’m calling on the God of Moses
The one who opened up the ocean
I need You now to do
The same thing for me

O God my God I need You
O God my God I need You now

How I need You now
O Rock O Rock of ages
I’m standing on Your faithfulness
On Your Faithfulness

I’m calling on the God of Mary
Whose favor rests upon the lowly
I know with You
All things are possible

I’m calling on the God of David
Who made a shepherd boy courageous
I may no faith Goliath
But I’ve got my own giants

You heard Your children then
You hear Your children now
You are the same God
You are the same God
You answered prayers back then
And You will answer now
You are the same God
You are the same God

You were providing then
You are providing now
You are the same God
You are the same God
You moved in power then
God move in power now
You are the same God
You are the same God

You were a healer then
You are a healer now
You are the same God
You are the same God
You were a Savior then
You are a Savior now
You are the same God
You are the same God

Song: Trust In God

Blessed assurance Jesus is mine
He’s been my fourth man in the fire
Time after time

Born of His spirit
Washed in His blood
And what He did for me on Calvary
Is more than enough

I trust in God my Savior
The One who will never fail
He will never fail

Perfect submission All is at rest
I know the author of tomorrow
He has ordered my steps

So this is my story and this is my song
I’m praising my risen King and Savior
All the day long

I sought the Lord
And He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord
And He heard and He answered
I sought the Lord
And He heard and He answered
That’s why I trust Him
That’s why I trust Him

Scripture Reading: Exodus 34:1-7

The Lord said to Moses, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai. Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain.  No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.”

So Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the Lord had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands. Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”

This is the Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Firm Foundation

Jesus’ Church
Dr. Scott McKee
Matthew 16:13-18 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. "I hear you are entering the ministry. Was it your own idea or were you poorly advised?" And the answer that she could not have heard even if I had given it was that it was not an idea at all, neither my own nor anyone else's. It was a lump in the throat. It was an itching in the feet. It was a stirring in the blood… It was a name which, when I wrote it out in a dream, I knew was a name worth dying for even if I was not brave enough to do the dying myself….Come unto me, [Jesus said] all ye who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you a high and driving peace. - Frederick Buechner, The Alphabet of Grace Matthew 16:17-18 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Who does the church belong to? Jesus. Who is going to build Jesus’ church? Jesus. Thoughtful Theology: We love God with our minds, as well as our hearts. We welcome tough questions and avoid simplistic answers. We seek to understand and apply the scriptures to all areas of life (2 Timothy 3:16). Audacious Generosity: We share time, talent, and treasure for the glory of God and the good of neighbor. We live with open hands, realizing that everything belongs to God. We excel in the grace of giving (2 Corinthians 8:7). Healthy Families: We support the family as God’s primary plan for nurture and discipleship. The family was created by God to be a reflection of His character and the vehicle of His grace (Ephesians 3:14-15). We invest in marriages, parents, grandparents, kids, and students. We minister to those who know the pain of a broken family. We are family to each other. Global Reach: We share God’s heart for all nations, including the nations in our own neighborhoods. The work of justice and mercy starts here at home, but extends near and far. We desire to be people through whom God will bless all nations (Genesis 12:1-2). Extra-Mile Hospitality: We welcome everyone as an honored guest. Taking our role as hosts seriously, we go the extra mile to let our guests know that that they are not just welcome, but wanted (Romans 15:7). This hospitality is not just for first time visitors on Sunday morning, but permeates all relationships and extends beyond our walls. Who does the church belong to? Jesus. Who is going to build Jesus’s church? Jesus. How strong will it be? Extremely powerful. Matthew 16:17 ….I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 2 Corinthians 6:2 I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation. Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
