  • English as a Second Language Conversation Groups

Ward Church Farmington Hills 2 weeks ago

Many different people from around the world come to the Metro Detroit area for many different reasons. While many can speak some English, rarely is it their native language. These people often need opportunities to come and meet in groups, to practice English, while also having an opportunity to make friends and grow their network.

The diverse nature of the Farmington Hills community introduces a lot of opportunity for reaching people who would benefit from an ESL Conversation Group. With that in mind, the Ward Church Farmington Hills campus will kickstart conversation groups on Oct. 11 and 12 and run for nine weeks (for the Fall semester) no meetings 11/23-24 Thanksgiving). These will happen on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

    Volunteer – no experience needed!

If you’d like to connect with others in this way, we invite you to sign up as a volunteer (ages 19 and older – volunteers from either campus are welcome). All volunteers will be given job descriptions, training and lunch on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Farmington Hills campus, immediately following the 10:30 a.m. service. Conversation starters for classes will also be provided.

If you’re interested in volunteering with this program and would like to attend the training on Oct. 9 at Ward Church Farmington Hills, contact Kristen Shunk at kristen.shunk@ward.church.
